Adele Laurie Blue Adkins – known simply as Adele – was born in Tottenham, London, on 5 May 1988.
In her short 23 years on this planet, Adele has achieved more professionally than many artists twice her age.
Educated at the famous BRIT school for performing arts, London, alongside peers Jessie J and Leona Lewis, she has managed to eclipse the successes of fellow graduates Amy Winehouse, Katie Melua and Kate Nash.
The school, offering courses in singing lessons, stage craft and music business, amongst other things, proved to be the ideal stomping ground for the young singer to perfect her craft – concocting a heady blue-eyed-soul sound.

After graduating, Adele made her bones playing shows the length and breadth of the country before heading into the studio to cut her first record – 19.
19 was released in 2008 and thanks to the strength of singles such as Chasing Pavements and Hometown Glory she garnered great critical acclaim – the album eventually going multi-platinum.
She received a nod for 2008’s Mercury Music Prize before bagging the gong for Critics Choice at that year’s BRIT Awards and taking home a clutch of prizes at the 2009 Grammys.
This success might satisfy some – not Adele.
In 2011 Adele released 21.
The album, an instant smash hit, captured the world’s attention.
A critical and commercial success, the album has smashed several records for sales, propelling Adele into the realms of mega-stardom.
She has become the first musician since the Beatles in 1964 to occupy to occupy two top five slots in both the UK singles and albums chart; the record is the first to sell in excess of 3million copies in one year; and she has claimed the records for most consecutive and cumulative weeks at number one on the albums chart for a female artist.
Adele’s blend of soul, Motown, country and pop has become the sound du jour for young female artists.
Following some recuperation from a career threatening vocal-cord polyp, Adele can look forward to the future and visiting her fans from Edinburgh to Belfast, Aberdeen to London.
